Mrs.Sukanya born in Mysore to Kanoj Brahmin Family of North India. Her father Late Sri.Venugopal Sharma was also a talented singer who use to sing in Late Kalinga Rao's Troupe. Mother Late Smt.Vijayalakshmi was a highly spiritual lady and devotee of Lord Subramanya. Mrs.Sukanya's Mothertongue is Hindi. Her ancestors were astrologers in the court of Mysore Krishna Raja Wodeyar of Mysore Samstan. There family got the JAHAGIR from the Mysore Royal during their ruling.

Mrs. Sukanya having qualifications such as M.A. in Kannada Literature from Mysore University, M.A. in Music from Bangalore University , Praveen and B.Ed in Hindi from Dakshina Bharath Hindi Prachara Sabha , Chennai and Gamaka Paarina from Karnataka Gamaka Kala Parishad. At present she is student of Western Music in Piano at Indian Branch of Trinity University , London.

But, it is in the field of music that she excelled after training under noted gurus. In veena recitals, Aruna earned her spurs with junior grade exam with distinction in 1980, senior grade exam with first rank in 1983 and Vidwat in 1987 with second rank - with K R Laxmi Iyengar of Manipal as her guru.

Mrs.Sukanya is not only a Classical Music Vocalist , she is an expert Veena , Guitar and Western Music too !
